An Afternoon at Soft Sensuous Moves with San Antonio Bloggers

Last weekend, amidst a torrential downpour, several local bloggers braved the rains and floods to participate in an event hosted by Soft Sensuous Moves and FetePatty.  As we prepared for the weekend I would get nervous, giggly messages from the ladies wondering what exactly they had gotten themselves into.  I remembered my first class and smiled at the memory of a nervous knot in my belly trying to do something physically, mentally and emotionally challenging for the first time.  I don't think enough daily activities challenge us on all three levels at once...at least not enough for my liking.  Anyhow, I knew they would have a blast...it would just take a little sangria and some purpose with direction to warm them up.
Rene' Mulholland, owner of Soft Sensuous Moves, greeted our bloggers with the story of how the studio came to be.  She explained that it had grown from humble beginnings at her house to the free standing studio it is today.  She shared her motivation, her vision and her mission.  And she asked each lady to stand up, lift tall, head up, shoulders back, one foot forward, one hip out, hand on hip look at themselves in the mirror and remember this pose...it is commanding and best used when you've forgotten what it is you are trying to say!  She claimed it "works every time."
The ladies were treated to an intermediate level performance by Lola LaRue (that's me)....it was French and Moody (like I am in my head!).  They were also treated to something Soulful, Sassy and Sexy by Brown Suga Wilson...Hot and Dirty by Kat and Flowing and Free by Intimate Spins.  When asked if they had any questions I heard one blogger comment, "I can't talk because I am in awe right now!"  Yesssss!  Mission accomplished.  We were hoping to provide the bloggers with not only their own experience, but our experiences, as well.  We also wanted to introduce them to Angels of Elegance, a performance troupe created by our lead instructor, Jennifer Huff.  The troupe is available for events and private parties and highlights some of the best talent in San Antonio.  Members of the troupe are skilled in pole dancing, fire dancing, burlesque and silks.
Once the food had settled and the bloggers were properly introduced and entertained...the experience became about them!  They were put through the paces of a typical "Try Me Out" class led by Brown Suga Wilson.  The bloggers learned "sexy walk," "pole turns," "pivots," "mud flap girl," "sexy push up," and "fireman spins" to name but a few.
At the end of the class the lights were dimmed, the disco ball illuminated and the ladies completed a routine incorporating what they had learned and then were allowed to "freestyle!"
Soft Sensuous Moves held a drawing for 1 Booty Ballet class and 1 Try Me Out class and the winner was Michelle Cantu, creator of A Thrifty Diva! (I better see you in class, soon, Michelle!)
Soft Sensuous Moves would like to thank the bloggers who participated in this event, in spite of the terrible weather!

I would like to personally thank Brown Suga, Kat and Intimate Spins for volunteering their Saturday (and also braving the rain).  I would also like to express my gratitude to Rene' Mulholland for allowing us the use of the studio.  A special thank you to Angels of Elegance for sharing your information and talent with us.  Zoe's Kitchen in Lincoln Heights deserves an enormous shout out for kindly donating all the food!  It was perfect for the event...fresh and light.  And finally, a big thank you to For The Love of Bertie cookies!  Meredith created some precious treats in the shape of corsets and high heels!  Beautiful attention to detail.

I am so grateful for the opportunity to have hosted my first blog event in San Antonio.  Here's hoping to more in the future...with much better weather!

Salmon with Mint Mustard Sauce

The ladies over at Mayhar Design consistently deliver taste with impeccable grace and pristine attention to detail.  If you have EVER or will EVER create an event of any kind....know them!  Know their blog!

I am lucky enough to live in the same city as this family team which includes Ashleigh, Melanie and Tori.  Because of my proximity to these ladies I was able to attend their first workshop in a series of workshops called Styled: A Design Workshop Series.

The first workshop focused on designing a perfect party/shower.  Melanie drew her inspiration for the entire event from two colors...mint and mustard.  (All I could think of was the infamous scene from Something to Talk About where Julia Roberts' character is visiting her aunt and explaining how her husband has been running around on her all over town with all her friends.  Her aunt suggests she make him dinner...Salmon with Mint Mustard Sauce...with a dash a of a violent vomit inducing ingredient.)

So as I giggled in my head and sipped on my limeade mimosa...I sat back and soaked in the beauty of the workshop!  Here are some of my images....

The event was sponsored and presented by the following:

Aunt: Make him something special he won't forget, ever.  Here.  Make him that.
Julia Roberts:  Poached salmon with mint mustard sauce....
Aunt:  Olive oil, honey, teaspoon....
Julia Roberts:  My God, but this is....
Aunt:  No, it's not lethal in that small dose.

Soul Full Sunday

I have not really blogged much recently....for a reason.  A BIG reason.

I have been doing some BIG work on myself and with myself.  I didn't really set out for all this reading and listening and thinking and praying.  This perfect storm has sort of settled in and the universe is tossing wisdom and shift at me from all directions.  And it is welcome, pleasurable, peaceful and clear.

I am reluctant to even press the letters on this keyboard because I could bleed all over this blog post...but I am not sure I am ready to share...or am afraid to over-share, maybe?  My thoughts are pretty much a jumbled mess right now so trying to get anything coherent on the page might be an exercise in futility anyhow.

However, I do want to share a bit of what the universe has gifted me, recently.

Flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience and gentleness.
1 Timothy 6:11

....intuition is really a sudden immersion of the soul into the universal current of life, where histories of all people are connected, and we are able to know everything, because it is all written there.
-Paulo Coelho

The river is a river not a line
My love is the water and it's stronger and deeper than time.

To be nobody-but-yourself in a world which is doing its best, night and day, to make you everybody but yourself-means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight-and never stop fighting.

An interview with this man....

Lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence.
1 Timothy 2:2

Last, but certainly not least, I have had some PROFOUND conversations with the women in my life.  The conversations have been real, soulful, deep and honest.  I have been allowed the opportunity to listen to what they see from the outside looking in and the wisdom they have shared will carry me, forever, I assume.  You all know who you are...I honor the divine in you!

I am ultimately shooting for "wholehearted living" which is scary, scary, scary...but the gifts of imperfection, as allowed by Brene' Brown, are COURAGE, CONNECTION AND COMPASSION. And THAT is the life I WANT to live!

Now to go on and cultivate it!

I am worthy.
