An Afternoon at Soft Sensuous Moves with San Antonio Bloggers

Last weekend, amidst a torrential downpour, several local bloggers braved the rains and floods to participate in an event hosted by Soft Sensuous Moves and FetePatty.  As we prepared for the weekend I would get nervous, giggly messages from the ladies wondering what exactly they had gotten themselves into.  I remembered my first class and smiled at the memory of a nervous knot in my belly trying to do something physically, mentally and emotionally challenging for the first time.  I don't think enough daily activities challenge us on all three levels at once...at least not enough for my liking.  Anyhow, I knew they would have a blast...it would just take a little sangria and some purpose with direction to warm them up.
Rene' Mulholland, owner of Soft Sensuous Moves, greeted our bloggers with the story of how the studio came to be.  She explained that it had grown from humble beginnings at her house to the free standing studio it is today.  She shared her motivation, her vision and her mission.  And she asked each lady to stand up, lift tall, head up, shoulders back, one foot forward, one hip out, hand on hip look at themselves in the mirror and remember this pose...it is commanding and best used when you've forgotten what it is you are trying to say!  She claimed it "works every time."
The ladies were treated to an intermediate level performance by Lola LaRue (that's me)....it was French and Moody (like I am in my head!).  They were also treated to something Soulful, Sassy and Sexy by Brown Suga Wilson...Hot and Dirty by Kat and Flowing and Free by Intimate Spins.  When asked if they had any questions I heard one blogger comment, "I can't talk because I am in awe right now!"  Yesssss!  Mission accomplished.  We were hoping to provide the bloggers with not only their own experience, but our experiences, as well.  We also wanted to introduce them to Angels of Elegance, a performance troupe created by our lead instructor, Jennifer Huff.  The troupe is available for events and private parties and highlights some of the best talent in San Antonio.  Members of the troupe are skilled in pole dancing, fire dancing, burlesque and silks.
Once the food had settled and the bloggers were properly introduced and entertained...the experience became about them!  They were put through the paces of a typical "Try Me Out" class led by Brown Suga Wilson.  The bloggers learned "sexy walk," "pole turns," "pivots," "mud flap girl," "sexy push up," and "fireman spins" to name but a few.
At the end of the class the lights were dimmed, the disco ball illuminated and the ladies completed a routine incorporating what they had learned and then were allowed to "freestyle!"
Soft Sensuous Moves held a drawing for 1 Booty Ballet class and 1 Try Me Out class and the winner was Michelle Cantu, creator of A Thrifty Diva! (I better see you in class, soon, Michelle!)
Soft Sensuous Moves would like to thank the bloggers who participated in this event, in spite of the terrible weather!

I would like to personally thank Brown Suga, Kat and Intimate Spins for volunteering their Saturday (and also braving the rain).  I would also like to express my gratitude to Rene' Mulholland for allowing us the use of the studio.  A special thank you to Angels of Elegance for sharing your information and talent with us.  Zoe's Kitchen in Lincoln Heights deserves an enormous shout out for kindly donating all the food!  It was perfect for the event...fresh and light.  And finally, a big thank you to For The Love of Bertie cookies!  Meredith created some precious treats in the shape of corsets and high heels!  Beautiful attention to detail.

I am so grateful for the opportunity to have hosted my first blog event in San Antonio.  Here's hoping to more in the future...with much better weather!
