Happy Anniversary MLF....

I have received a number of comments on "hot froggy love!" I am relieved to know that no one was offended and most everyone thought it was pretty cute. I suppose the true test will come when I find a family of "hot baby froggies" in my backyard. I promised to keep you all posted. I know you are all breathless in anticipation. I had a very full weekend, but managed to get in some QUALITY sleep time that was much needed and most appreciated. I have A LOT of photos and stories to post so I am going to get right to it.
Today marks the 2nd anniversary of our Mobile Loaves and Fishes Ministry. For the last two years we (and I say that loosely because I took a major hiatus in the middle) have been delivering food to the working poor and homeless the first Sunday of every month. We have consistently delivered to two mobile home parks by the San Antonio Missions, less consistently to Travis Park and more recently to an apartment complex on the south side of town. Each Sunday we pile into the truck and take sandwiches, snacks, fruits, desserts, drinks, clothes, toiletries, toys, books, magazines, etc. down to people who are in need of a good homemade lunch! We have been consistently received with grace and have been humbled by the work. Additionally, we have had quite a few laughs along the way. (At our own expense....not at the expense of others...important to note.) We have had several guest members (Aidan, Mom, Dad, Najla, Patsy), some members leaves us temporarily (Valerie, Me), some new members join (Julie, Danica), some members leave for jobs in a different city (congratulations Andrew); however the core group has always been Christine (fearless team leader), Karen and Jace'. Happy Anniversary Friends and here's to two more years of service......

Today the children came out in droves. Usually we serve more adults. Today the children were chasing after us like we were the ice cream truck on a 110 degree day! Thank goodness we were armed with toys and books. We had an awesome Oscar the Grouch stuffed animal. I could not GIVE the thing away. None of the children appeared a)familiar with him and b)interested in him. I guess that's his karma after all those years of pure grouchiness. He finally found a good home and was taken by a man roughly my age. I guess he had fond memories, too.

I was on the side of the truck where we keep toiletries, toys, books, magazines, shoes, clothes, etc. As always, I can't reach the top shelf and refuse to use the stool provided for us....

I can't believe it has been two years! It seems like just yesterday Christine and I attended the first meeting at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and signed up for the first Sunday of the month. Thank you for leading us Christine. You have been a wonderful team leader.

Immediately following Mobile Loaves and Fishes I attended a small rally at Johnston Library for the Julian Castro campaign. I arrived and recognized no one but hung out in my car until Milagro and Ben arrived. The group was largely composed of firemen. I sat next to one named Jerry and he kept mentioning several of the firemen were single! So I promised him I would take of photo of these poor, unsuspecting firemen and post for all my gals! So...ladies...enjoy....
Early voting is taking place at the library. There were hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, and drinks for those who were in attendance. Similar rallies were taking place around town.

REMEMBER......PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE VOTE! ELECTION DAY IS MAY 9TH!
Right now I am lovin' my new, black hat!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had the privilege of attending a Kentucky Derby Party hosted by the Women's Leadership Council of the United Way. I was invited by my friend and colleague, Sarah Fox. (She and I are photographed below.) The event was held at Retama Park. Every woman in the room had a hat...and some of the men! Some of these hats were EXTRAORDINARY....true works of art that were brought over from Paris. The ladies were all so elegant. I longed for a quick trip to Paris to visit the various millineries. The event was a lot of fun complete with great food and mint juleps in commemorative glasses. I, however, was not so lucky. I bet on Dunkirk....with the rest of the party...and perhaps America. However, Dunkirk was smoked by a total longshot (whose name escapes me now). I love a good underdog story despite losing twenty dollars. Thanks again, Sarah. Keep me in mind for next year! (Wink Wink)
